Custom ingredients
Add an ingredient that is not in the built-in library.
Adding an ingredient
Use New ingredient on the Formulation page. You need:
| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| Name | Whatever you will search for later |
| Formula | Element symbols and counts, for example C6 H14 O6 |
| Heat of formation | In calories per gram |
| Density | In grams per cubic centimetre |
| Category | Oxidizer, Fuel, Binder, Metal, Curative, Plasticizer, Additive or Other |
Capitalize element symbols normally: Cl, Al, Na. Fractional counts are allowed.
Converting a heat of formation
Reference tables usually give the heat of formation in kJ/mol. To convert to cal/g, multiply by 239.006 and divide by the molar mass in g/mol:
ΔHf (cal/g) = ΔHf (kJ/mol) × 239.006 ÷ molar mass (g/mol)
Sharing ingredients
The Export page can save a recipe’s ingredients as PEPCODED.DAF records, which BurnSim 4 and other PEP-family programs can import. See Burn rate and BurnSim export.
